When was the last time a movie, a book, or a television show left you cold despite all your friends (and/or all the critics) raving about it? What was it that made you go against the critical consensus?
What makes me rail against the group think?
Is it because I know something that you don’t?
Or have I experienced something that you haven’t?
Or is it that you have forgotten that what was your original stand,
and I was the devil’s advocate.
Now that you are the devils,
Have I to play the saint?
Or is it the way you attempt to force
Your so-called consensus without giving a damn,
For thought, protest or due process.
A movie, a book, a television show.
What do I care?
A stand’s a stand and there’s no pointing out,
That when change comes,
Memories are short and what passes gradually is noticed little,
But it’s the abruptness and the suddenness that disrupts and upends.
