After years of unhappiness, you’ve finally had enough and have decided to quit – but we’re not talking about your job. Write a letter of resignation to someone other than your employer – your school, your family, your favourite sports team, etc.

You ask me to pen a letter,

a resignation letter,

Not to my employer,

But to anyone else.

I wish I could think of whom to.

Certainly not my school nor my family.

I considered my favourite sports team

But nah! That never works!

I’ve been disappointed, yes.

By the scandals and the cheats abounding

in the sport and vowed never to return

But it’s never been easy and it’s a promise ill-kept.

So what do I say I’m resigned to?

I’m resigned to having loved and lost,

All the people I’ve loved before.

And having lost them,

I wish them well,

Never darken my doorstep again!

I’d like to move on, please!

Can your ‘proxies’ stop the nonsense and the nuisance, please?

As for jobs I have quit,

It’s the job I quit,

Not doing the things I love.

The job is not me!
